Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan and Ulster raised $123,000 at its 13th annual Celebration of Charity at Anthony’s Pier 9 in New Windsor March 21. A total of 400 guests attended.

Five community partners were recipients of the 2019 Caritas Award, which recognizes community-minded individuals and organizations who epitomize the Catholic Charities mission to provide help and create hope.

The honorees were Father Salvatore Cordaro, O.F.M. Cap., pastor of St. Joseph Church, New Paltz; Armistead Mechanical Inc., Waldwick, N.J.; Orange County Judicial Diversion Court, Hon. Robert H. Freehill presiding; Sullivan County Judicial Diversion Court, Hon. Stephan G. Schick presiding; and Catskill Regional Medical Center — Departments of Emergency Medicine and Behavioral Health.

“Outstanding community partners, like the 2019 Caritas Award honorees, help Catholic Charities fulfill our mission to provide help and create hope for our neighbors in need and exemplify the definition of caritas,” said Tom Urtz, Catholic Charities board chair and vice president of operations for ShopRite Supermarkets.

In 2018, Catholic Charities served more than 44,000 individuals in the three-county region, regardless of religion or ability to pay.
