17 Priests to Serve as Pastors, Administrators and Parochial Vicars

Seventeen priests have been appointed as pastors, administrators and parochial vicars of parishes in the archdiocese, the Cardinal’s Office has announced.

 

PASTORS

Father Levelt Germain was appointed pastor of the merged parish of St. Joseph, Spring Valley-St. Boniface, Wesley Hills, effective June 1. He was pastor of St. Joseph, Spring Valley, 2012-2019, and served at Our Lady of Grace, the Bronx, as pastor, 2009-2012; administrator, 2007-2009; and parochial vicar, 2007. He was parochial vicar of Holy Rosary, the Bronx, 2002-2007. He was ordained in 2002.

 

Father David Nolan was named pastor of Blessed Sacrament, Manhattan, effective Sept. 1. He was pastor of St. Joseph of the Holy Family, Manhattan, 2011-2019; St. Joachim-St. John the Evangelist, Beacon, 2005-2011; and St. Catherine of Genoa, Manhattan, 2000-2005, where he served as administrator, 1999-2000. He was parochial vicar of St. Brendan, the Bronx, 1995-2000. He was ordained in 1995.

 

Father Sean McGillicuddy, C.Ss.R., was appointed pastor of Immaculate Conception, the Bronx, effective Aug. 1. He was pastor of Most Holy Redeemer-Nativity, Manhattan, 2015-2019, and Most Holy Redeemer, Manhattan, 2011-2015. He also served in Brooklyn, Boston, Philadelphia and Baltimore. He professed final vows with the Redemptorists in 1985 and was ordained in 1986.

 

Father John Rafferty, O.A.R., was named pastor of Sacred Heart, Suffern, effective July 1. He previously served at the Tagaste Monastery, Suffern, as well as in New Jersey and California. He was ordained for the Augustinian Recollects of the Province of St. Nicholas of Tolentine in 2003.

 

Father Karol Jarzabek, O.S.P.P.E., was named pastor of St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr, Manhattan, effective Sept. 1. He was parochial vicar of St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr, Manhattan, since 2018, and also served in Pennsylvania. A native of Poland, he was ordained for the Order of St. Paul the First Hermit in 2012.

 

Father Broderick Walsh, C.S.P., was named pastor of St. Paul the Apostle, Manhattan, effective July 1. He served St. Paul the Apostle as parochial vicar, 2005-2007. He also served in Boston, Texas, Tennessee, Oregon and Toronto. He was ordained for the Paulist Fathers in 1992.

 

Father Stephen Mallanga, A.J., was appointed pastor of Holy Family-St. John Vianney-Blessed Sacrament, the Bronx, effective Sept. 1. He previously served in Arkansas. A native of Uganda, he was ordained for the Apostles of Jesus in 1991.

 

Father Robert Abbatiello, O.F.M. Cap., was appointed pastor of Sacred Heart, Yonkers, effective May 20. He was vicar provincial minister of the Province of St. Mary, 2017-2019, and previously served in Garrison as director of Capuchin Youth and Family Ministries, 1998-2002, and in vocation ministry, 1993-1998. He also served in Brooklyn and Connecticut. He was ordained for the Capuchin Franciscans in 1990.

 

Father Edward Gorman, O.P., was appointed pastor of Holy Innocents, Pleasantville, effective Aug. 15. He was prior/pastor of St. Catherine of Siena, Manhattan, 2002-2009. He also served in New Jersey, Delaware, Michigan, Kenya, Tanzania, Iraq and Afghanistan. He was ordained for the Dominican Friars of St. Joseph Province in 1992.

 

ADMINISTRATORS

Father Salvatore DeStefano was appointed temporary administrator of St. Anthony, Commonwealth Avenue, the Bronx, effective July 19. He was pastor of St. Clare of Assisi-St. Francis Xavier, the Bronx, 2018-2019; pastor of St. Francis Xavier, the Bronx, 2017-2018; administrator of St. Clare of Assisi, the Bronx, 2018; temporary administrator of St. John the Evangelist, Pawling, and St. Charles Borromeo, Dover Plains, 2016-2017; and parochial vicar of St. Clare of Assisi, 2012-2016, and SS. John and Paul, Larchmont, 2008-2012. He was ordained in 2008.

 

Msgr. Thomas Sandi was named temporary administrator of Notre Dame, Manhattan, while continuing as pastor of Holy Trinity, Manhattan, effective July 9. He has been at Holy Trinity as pastor since 2015 and previously served as administrator, 2014-2015. He served at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Shrub Oak, as pastor, 2003-2014, and administrator, 2002-2003. He was parochial vicar of Holy Family, Staten Island, 2000-2002, and Our Lady of Mount Carmel-St. Benedict’s, Staten Island, 1973-1976, and served as a U.S. Air Force chaplain, 1976-2000, retiring with rank of lieutenant colonel. He was ordained in 1973.

 

Father Michael Moon was named temporary administrator of St. John Nam, the Bronx, effective July 1. He was at Sacred Heart, Hartsdale, as pastor, 2017-2019, and administrator, 2016-2017. He served as parochial vicar of Sacred Heart, Suffern, 2012-2016; Blessed Sacrament, Staten Island, 2007-2012; and Our Lady of the Assumption, the Bronx, 2004-2007. He was ordained in 2004.

 

Father Bejoy Thomas, C.M.I., was appointed temporary administrator of Holy Name of Jesus, Valhalla, effective June 7. He was parochial vicar of St. Mary, Mother of the Church, Fishkill, 2019; St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Newburgh, 2018-2019; Sacred Heart, Newburgh, 2016-2018; and Immaculate Conception, Stony Point, 2015-2016. A native of India, he was ordained for the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate in 2010.

 

Father Wilhelmus Klaver, M.H.M., was appointed administrator of St. John the Evangelist-Our Lady of Mount Carmel, White Plains, effective April 22. He was parochial vicar of St. Margaret of Cortona, the Bronx, 2016-2019. He also served in Uganda and Kenya. A native of the Netherlands, he was ordained for the Mill Hill Missionaries in 1995.

 

Father Marek Rudecki, S.A.C., was named administrator of St. Casimir, Yonkers, while continuing to serve as administrator of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Yonkers, effective April 1. He was administrator of Our Lady of Mount Carmel since 2016. He also served in Brooklyn and Queens. The native of Poland was ordained for the Society of the Catholic Apostolate (Pallottine Fathers) in 1981.

 

PAROCHIAL VICARS

Father Pat Rossi was named parochial vicar of Holy Rosary-Nativity of Our Blessed Lady, the Bronx, effective July 1. He was pastor of St. Michael the Archangel, the Bronx, 2007-2019, and SS. Philip and James, the Bronx, 1998-2007. He was parochial vicar of SS. Philip and James, the Bronx, 1997-1998 and 1983-1987, and St. Rose of Lima, Manhattan, 1982-1983. He was on the faculty of St. John Neumann Residence, the Bronx, 1987-1997. He was ordained in 1982.

 

Father Sandro Leyton Rodriguez was appointed parochial vicar of St. Margaret of Cortona, the Bronx, effective Sept. 1. He served as parochial vicar of St. Anthony of Padua, the Bronx, 2019; St. Patrick-St. Mary-Our Lady of the Lake, Newburgh, 2016-2018; and St. Joseph, Middletown, 2013-2016. He was administrator of St. Ann, Ossining, 2018-2019. He was ordained in 2013.
