Administrators Appointed at Parishes

Ten priests have been named as administrators and temporary administrators at parishes in the archdiocese either in late 2014 or early this year, the Cardinal’s Office has announced.

         The administrators and their dates of their appointments are: Father George Baker, St. Mary’s, Obernberg, Dec. 22; Father Joseph Emmanuel, St. Joan of Arc, Sloatsburg, Jan. 15; Father George Hafemann, St. John the Evangelist, Goshen, Feb. 1; Father James Hauver, St. Clement and St. Michael, Staten Island, Nov. 15; Father Senapthige Niranjan Rodrigo, Infant Saviour, Pine Bush, Jan. 15; Father Eric Rapaglia, Our Lady of Mercy, the Bronx, Feb. 1; Msgr. Donald Sakano, Most Precious Blood, Manhattan, Nov. 6, and Father Leonard Villa, administrator, Holy Innocents, Manhattan, Dec. 26.

The temporary administrators are: Father Thomas Kallumady, St. John the Martyr and St. John Nepomucene, Manhattan, Nov. 20, and Father Marc Oliver, St. Mary’s, Kingston, Nov. 20;

 

Father George Baker had been temporary administrator at St. Mary’s parish, Obernberg, since October. Before that, he had served as chaplain to ArchCare, the archdiocesan health care ministry, beginning in 2011. He was parochial vicar of Our Lady of Victory parish, 2001-2007; St. Peter’s, 1999-2001; and Epiphany, 1988-1993, all in Manhattan; and St. Benedict’s, 1982-1988, and St. Anthony’s, 1981-1982, both in the Bronx. He was chaplain at Mount Sinai Medical Center, Manhattan, 1993-1999. He was ordained in 1981.  

 

Father Joseph Emmanuel has been administrator since 2011 of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Tuxedo, where he will continue. He had served as parochial vicar of Immaculate Conception, Tuckahoe, 1997-2011. He was ordained in 1981 and incardinated into the archdiocese in 2004.

 

Father George Hafemann had served as pastor of Immaculate Conception parish, Port Jervis, since 2007. He was parochial vicar of St. Joseph’s, Croton Falls, 2003-2007, and Holy Trinity, Poughkeepsie, 1999-2003. He was ordained in 1999.

 

Father James Hauver has been administrator of St. Roch’s parish, Staten Island, since 2012, a post he will retain. Prior to that he served as parochial vicar at Our Lady Star of the Sea, Staten Island, since 2011. Before that he was temporary administrator of St. Augustine’s, Highland, for a year. He also served as parochial vicar of Immaculate Conception, Stony Point, 2009-2010; St. Joseph’s, Staten Island, 2009, and St. Patrick’s, Yorktown Heights, 2002-2008. He served on the faculty of Archbishop Stepinac High School, White Plains, 2008-2009. He was ordained for the Diocese of Duluth, Minn. in 1997 and incardinated into the archdiocese in 2010.

 

Father Thomas Kallumady has been administrator of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini parish on Staten Island since June, a post he will retain. He served as pastor of Holy Innocents, Manhattan, 2007-2013, and pastor of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral, Manhattan, 2005-2007, where he was administrator, 2002-2005. He was parochial vicar at St. John the Evangelist, Beacon, 2000-2002 and Sacred Heart, Staten Island, 1997-2000. Formerly of India, he was ordained in 1973 and incardinated into the archdiocese in 2000.

 

Father Marc Oliver has been administrator at St. Peter’s parish in Kingston since 2010, a post he will retain. He has served as campus chaplain at Dutchess Community College and the Culinary Institute since then. He was campus chaplain at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie for many years, beginning in 1994. He served as assistant dean at the Archdiocesan Catechetical Institute and assistant director of the Diaconate Formation program, 1989-1994. A former Episcopal priest, he was ordained to the Catholic priesthood in 1989 after having been received into the Church four years earlier. 

 

Father Senapthige Niranjan Rodrigo had been administrator of St. Joan of Arc parish, Sloatsburg, since 2011. He was parochial vicar of St. Theresa of the Infant Jesus, the Bronx, 2010-2011; St. John the Evangelist, Goshen, 2005-2009; and St. Paul’s, Congers, 2001-2005. He was ordained in his native Sri Lanka in 1999 and incardinated into the archdiocese in 2009.

 

Father Eric Rapaglia is returning from a six-month sabbatical. He most recently served as pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish, the Bronx, 2008-2014. He was parochial vicar of St. Barnabas, the Bronx, 2004-2008, and Our Lady Star of the Sea, Staten Island, 2000-2004. He was ordained in 2000.

 

Msgr. Donald Sakano has served as pastor of the Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral since 2007, a post he will retain. Prior to that he had served as pastor of Holy Innocents, Manhattan, since 1993 and was previously temporary administrator there for six months. He also served as administrator of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Manhattan, 2000-2007. He served with archdiocesan Catholic Charities, 1979-1993, directing its Department of Neighborhood Housing. He was parochial vicar of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary in Manhattan and chaplain of New York University Medical Center, 1971-1979. He was ordained in 1971 and named a monsignor in 1995.

 

Father Leonard Villa had served since July as administrator at St. John the Evangelist, Goshen. Before that, he had been pastor since 1998 of St. Eugene’s, Yonkers, where he had previously served as administrator and parochial vicar. He was regional vicar of Yonkers, 2011-2014. He served as parochial vicar at St. Dominic’s, 1992-1994, and Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 1986-1991, both of the Bronx. He was ordained in 1986.
