While the USCCB blog laments the actions of Vice President Biden for giving counter-witness by officiating at a same-sex marriage, it is not Biden who gives counter-witness but the USCCB itself.
The USCCB calls him a Catholic despite his forfeiture of the title by publicly and flagrantly opposing the Catholic Church on serious moral issues. When the bishops fail to ex-communicate him and declare him outside the Catholic Church, it is they, the guardians of the faith, who are causing confusion and giving scandal to the faithful. It is most regrettable that the bishops have chosen to ignore their sacred duty to safeguard consciences against moral compromises by their failure to take a substantial public action against such behavior.
