Students of Immaculate Conception School in Tuckahoe celebrate Pope Francis’ New York visit Sept. 23 complete with a “mini pope”—Thomas Mays, and his two Swiss Guards, Sabrina McMullen and Tyler Moroni. Art teacher Geraldine Hill created the costumes.

Eighth-graders of Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in the Bronx listen to Mother Mary Thomas, P.C.P.A., a cloistered nun from Cleveland, who created a 30’ x 17’ mural of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament and the Communion of Saints. Pope Francis was incorporated into the work after his election.

The artist brought a smaller reproduction to the Bronx school Sept. 25. The original is due to be hung at the Vatican upon completion next year.
