John L. Allen Jr., the founder and editor of Crux and one of the foremost journalists covering the Vatican and the Church, will launch a weekly show on The Catholic Channel, SiriusXM channel 129.

“The Crux of The Matter With John Allen” will debut Monday, July 25, live from Krakow, Poland, during the celebration of World Youth Day 2016. It will air every Monday (1-2 p.m. ET) on The Catholic Channel, available nationwide on satellite radios and on the SiriusXM app.

The show will cover the Vatican, global Catholicism and the Church in the United States, discussing the latest headline news, often with a lighthearted approach. Allen and co-host Inés San Martín will run down important Catholic developments, with a special focus on Pope Francis and the Vatican, while welcoming guests that will include clergy members and other Catholic newsmakers, pundits, theologians and activists.

Allen founded Crux in 2014 as a project of the Boston Globe, where he was an associate editor for two years. Today, Crux is an independent news platform specializing in coverage of the Vatican and the Catholic Church. For 16 years, he was a senior correspondent for the National Catholic Reporter. Allen is also the senior Vatican analyst for CNN and the author of 11 books on the Vatican and Church affairs.

The debut of The Crux of the Matter kicks off a week of live coverage on The Catholic Channel from the 2016 World Youth Day Festival in Poland, where millions of young people from around the globe will gather with Pope Francis to celebrate their faith. Hosts Lino Rulli and Father Dave Dwyer, C.S.P., will broadcast from Krakow from Tuesday, July 26, through Sunday, July 31, to give listeners access to the cultural program of World Youth Day by recapping the day’s events and featuring interviews with pilgrims and others in attendance. Listeners will also hear coverage of the week’s events, including Pope Francis’ Welcoming Ceremony, Saturday’s Vigil and the Sunday Mass celebrated by the Holy Father at Błonia Park.
