Day of Anointing

Posted

To the Editor:

An ordinary bird, not a dove, perched itself above the entrance door to St. Patrick’s Cathedral welcoming the Holy Spirit as the trail of dignitaries processed down the main aisle. The sun sparkled and shined in the eyes of guests awaiting the Mass of Ordination of the three new auxiliary bishops of the Archdiocese of New York on the feast day of St. John Vianney, Aug. 4.

The cathedral showcased collars, veils and people of all walks of life, including representatives of interfaith communities. The clapping of hands trumpeted the view of the three souls soon to be adorned by Cardinal Dolan with chrism, crosiers, rings and miters.

Bishop John J. Jenik, Bishop John J. O’Hara and Bishop Peter J. Byrne were now full-fledged shepherds. Thanks be to God for blessing the three families, thus giving us a holy, historical day embraced with prayer, peace and thanksgiving, amidst a world in need of so much grace.
