To the Editor:
I share this response to “Mary’s Servant,” the front-page photograph in CNY’s Nov. 27 issue, and the accompanying article, “Servants of Mary Care for Body and Soul.”
I was moved in my heart by the compassion the Sister gives to the elderly disabled man. And I personally experienced compassionate service from two sisters (Francis and Lucita) at a local Catholic Charities center here on the Lower East Side.
Also, this is not a happy moment, nor a happy thing to have to say. There is virtually no compassion anywhere in our darkly troubled society. It is a dog-eat-dog society with brutal, heartless, secular, hardened materialistic and selfish values.
I am a Jewish Christian senior who has worshipped at St. Mary’s Church for 35 years.
