‘Disgraceful’ Decisions

Posted

What has happened to Catholic universities across the country? It is with sadness that I learn almost weekly of some prestigious Catholic university being, in essence, “politically correct.” The March 17 issue of Catholic New York had an article about a Georgetown University club inviting the CEO of Planned Parenthood, an organization in the business of killing babies for money, to speak at the university. Such an invitation would never have been allowed to happen in the 1960s at any Catholic institution.

The March 31 issue mentions that the University of Notre Dame is planning to honor Vice President Joe Biden and John Boehner with the Laetare Medal for outstanding service to the Catholic Church. Is Notre Dame serious in honoring Joe Biden who believes abortion, the killing of human life, and same-sex marriage are perfectly OK, no matter that both are vehemently opposed by the Church’s teaching?

Bishop Kevin Rhoades of Fort Wayne-South Bend, Ind., is perfectly correct in denouncing Notre Dame’s decision to honor such a man, and I only hope more leaders of the Catholic Church would voice their opinions on such a disgraceful decision by Notre Dame’s leaders, especially Father John Jenkins, the president.
