Father Alban Carroll, S.A.

Father Alban Carroll, S.A., who served at Graymoor in Garrison, died June 19. He was 89.

He was guardian and librarian at St. Paul’s Friary, Graymoor, 1983-1987.

He was pastor of a parish in Rochester, England, 1987-1993. He then served as parochial vicar at parishes in Los Angeles and Apex, N.C.

In the 1970s, he was guardian of the Catholic Central Library at the Educational Institute, London.

In 2007, he served at the Atonement Friary in Washington, D.C., before returning to Graymoor.

Earlier, he was a teacher, prefect and vice rector at St. John’s Seminary, Montour Falls, and did pastoral ministry in Brockton, Mass.

Born in Roxbury, Mass., he entered the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement in 1948 and professed final vows in 1952. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1955.

He received a master’s degree at the University of Laval, Quebec, Canada.

A Funeral Mass was offered June 20 at the St. Pius X Building, Graymoor, followed by interment at the Friars’ Cemetery there.
