Fifteen Priests Named Pastors in the Archdiocese

Father Patrick Angelucci, S.D.B., who was named pastor of the newly merged parish of Corpus Christi-Our Lady of the Rosary, Port Chester, on July 1, had most recently served as pastor of a parish in Elizabeth, N.J. He was director/president of Salesian High School, New Rochelle, 2005-2014. He was provincial of the Salesians’ Eastern U.S. Province in New Rochelle, 1991-1997. He was director of the Marian Shrine, Stony Point, 1988-1991, and earlier was president of a Salesian high school in Louisiana. He made final vows with the Salesians of Don Bosco in 1972 and was ordained in 1976.

Father John Aurilia, O.F.M. Cap., was named pastor of Immaculate Conception parish, Gun Hill Road, the Bronx, on Oct. 1. He had previously served as parochial vicar at the Capuchin-run parish and most recently was pastor of a parish in Passaic, N.J. He also served as pastor of a parish in Tampa, Fla. A native of Montemarano, Italy, he was ordained for the Capuchin Franciscans in 1966.

Father Gregory Chisholm, S.J., who was named pastor of the newly merged parish of St. Charles Borromeo-Resurrection-All Saints in Harlem on Aug. 1, had previously served as pastor of St. Charles Borromeo since 2011 and as temporary administrator of All Saints since 2013. He also serves as dean of Central Harlem. Before he was pastor of a parish in Oakland, Calif., 2005-2011, and administrator of a parish in Los Angeles, 1999-2005. He earlier taught at the University of Detroit-Mercy. He entered the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) in 1980 and was ordained in 1993.

Father Joseph Espaillat, who had served as director of youth ministry for the archdiocese since 2012, was named pastor of St. Anthony of Padua parish, the Bronx, on Sept. 4. He was pastor of St. Peter’s, Yonkers, 2009-2012, and was administrator there for two years and parochial vicar for three months. He was parochial vicar of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, Manhattan, 2003-2007. He was ordained in 2003.

Father Mark Hallinan, S.J., who was named pastor of the newly merged parish of Our Lady of Mount Carmel-St. Benedicta and St. Mary of the Assumption, Staten Island, on Aug. 1, had previously served as pastor of St. Mary of the Assumption and Our Lady of Mount Carmel-St. Benedicta parishes since 2011. He served as assistant for social justice ministries in the Jesuits’ New York provincial office, 2004-2011, and was parochial vicar of St. Ignatius Loyola, Manhattan, 1996-2004. He was ordained for the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) in 1995.

Father Raymond Nobiletti, M.M., who was named pastor of the newly merged parish of Transfiguration-St. James-St. Joseph, Manhattan, had previously served as pastor of Transfiguration since 1996 and was administrator there for five years before that. He was assistant superior general and member of the general council of the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers, 1985-1991. He was a missionary in Hong Kong, 1970-1985. He entered Maryknoll in 1960 and was ordained in 1969.

Father Peter Mushi, A.J., who was named pastor of the newly merged parish of St. Cecilia-Holy Agony, Manhattan, on Aug. 1, had previously served as pastor of St. Cecilia’s since 2009. Also on Aug. 1, he was named temporary administrator of the newly merged parish of Holy Family-St. John Vianney-Blessed Sacrament, the Bronx. He was pastor of St. Angela Merici, the Bronx, 2000-2009. He earlier worked in parish ministry in the Diocese of Allentown, Pa. Before coming to the United States, he was in parish ministry in Uganda and was vice rector of a house of philosophy studies in Kenya. A native of Tanzania, he was ordained in 1988 for the Apostles of Jesus.

Father Nelson Belizario, O. Carm., who was named pastor of the newly merged parish of St. Simon Stock-St. Joseph, the Bronx, on Aug. 1, previously had served as pastor of St. Simon Stock since 2003 and temporary administrator of St. Joseph’s since January. Before coming to New York, he had served as director of campus ministry for the Diocese of Toledo, Ohio. He also served for many years in Chicago, including nine years as pastor of a parish and service as chaplain of Cook County Jail. He was ordained for the Order of Carmelites’ Most Pure Heart of Mary Province in Chicago in 1968. 

Father Lawrence Ford, O.F.M., who was named pastor of the newly merged parish of Holy Name of Jesus-St. Gregory the Great, Manhattan, on Aug. 1, had previously served since September 2014 as pastor of Holy Name of Jesus, where he was parochial vicar, 2009-2014. He served at Siena College, Loudonville, 2005-2009, and Holy Name College, Washington, D.C., 2002-2005. He was on the staff of St. Anthony’s Shrine, Boston, 1996-2001. He professed final vows with the Franciscan Friars of the Holy Name Province in 1995 and was ordained the next year.

Father Thomas Franks, O.F.M. Cap., who was named pastor of the newly merged parish of Holy Cross-St. John the Baptist, Manhattan, on Aug. 1, had previously served since 2008 as pastor of St. John the Baptist parish, where he was parochial vicar, 2008-2011. He professed final vows with the Capuchin Franciscan Friars of the Province of St. Mary in 2003 and was ordained in 2008.

Father Sean McGillicuddy, C.Ss.R., who was named pastor of the newly merged parish of Most Holy Redeemer-Nativity, Manhattan, on Aug. 1, had previously served as pastor of Most Holy Redeemer since 2011. He earlier served at Redemptorist-run parishes in Boston, Brooklyn, Philadelphia and Baltimore. He professed final vows with the Redemptorists in 1985 and was ordained the next year.

Father Jose Ortega, L.C., who was named pastor of the newly merged parish of St. Peter-St. Denis, Yonkers, on Aug. 1, had previously served since last October as pastor of St. Peter’s. He was territorial administrator of Legionaries of Christ in the United States, 2004-2014, and was assistant to the administrator for two years before that. During that time, he assisted in Hispanic ministry at several parishes in the archdiocese. A native of Valencia, Spain, he entered the Legionaries of Christ in 1984 and was ordained in 2001.

Father Antonio Palacios, O.A.R., who was named pastor of the newly merged parish of St. Anselm-St. Roch, the Bronx, on Aug. 1, had previously served since 2003 as pastor of St. Anselm’s, where he was parochial vicar, 2001-2003. For 27 years he served at college and universities run by the Order of Augustinian Recollects in the Philippines. A native of Pamplona, Spain, he was ordained for the Augustinian Recollects in 1971.

Father Georginus Ugwu, M.S.P., who was named pastor of the newly merged parish of St. Frances of Rome-St. Anthony-St. Francis of Assisi-Our Lady of Grace, the Bronx, on Aug. 1, had previously served as temporary administrator of the Wakefield Catholic Churches of St. Frances of Rome, St. Anthony and St. Francis of Assisi since July 2014. He was pastor of the Catholic chapel and chaplain of Florida A & M University in Tallahassee, Fla., 2007-2014. He was associate director and bursar of his religious congregation’s office in Houston, 2005-2007. A native of Nigeria, he earlier served there and in the Central African Republic. He was ordained for the Missionary Society of St. Paul in 2000.

Father Walter Wagner, O.P., who was named pastor of the newly merged parish of St. Vincent Ferrer-St. Catherine of Siena, Manhattan, on Aug. 1, had previously served since 2010 as pastor of St. Vincent Ferrer. He was novice master at a priory in Cincinnati, 2000-2010; superior of a priory in Boston, 1997-2000; and teacher at Providence College, 1994-1997. He professed final vows with the Dominican Friars’ Province of St. Joseph in 1991 and was ordained in 1993.

Administrators

Father Angelo Micciulla, who had served as parochial vicar of St. Stephen the First Martyr, Warwick, since 2012, was named administrator of Holy Family parish, Staten Island, on Oct. 15. He was parochial vicar at Sacred Heart, Suffern, 2008-2012, and Our Lady of Sorrows, White Plains, 2005-2008. He was ordained in 2005. 

Father Freddy Patiño Montoya was named administrator of the newly merged parish of St. Joseph-Immaculate Conception-St. Mary, Staten Island, on Sept. 1. He had served as parochial vicar of St. Mary’s, St. Joseph’s and Immaculate Conception parishes since 2013. He earlier served as parochial vicar of St. Peter’s, Haverstraw, since his ordination in 2010.

Father Thomas Feely, S.J., was named temporary administrator of St. Ignatius Loyola parish, Manhattan, on June 1. He had served as parochial vicar at the parish since 2013. He served as principal of Regis High School, Manhattan, 1994-1999, and served for six years as principal of Colegio San Ignacio, a Jesuit high school in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He served as rector of Ciszek Hall, the house of studies for Jesuit scholastics at Fordham University, 1999-2004. He was assistant director at St. Andrew Hall Novitiate in Syracuse. He was ordained in 1975.
