Four Priests Receive New Appointments

Four other priests in the archdiocese have received new appointments, the Cardinal’s Office has announced.

They are: Father Brian McWeeney, who has been named director of ethnic apostolates, director of ecumenical and interreligious affairs, director of lay ecclesial movements, director of the temporary retirement home for clergy at Our Lady of the Scapular/St. Stephen, Manhattan, and liaison to the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council; Father Michael Cichon, now administrator of St. Peter’s parish, Staten Island, in addition to serving as pastor of Assumption-St. Paul’s parish there; Father Kevin Malick, who is temporary administrator of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, Roosevelt Island; and Father Fredy Patiño Montoya, who was named parochial vicar of St. Mary’s, St. Joseph’s and Immaculate Conception parishes, Staten Island.

The appointments of Father McWeeney and Father Cichon were effective Aug. 1; Father Malick’s was effective June 16; Father Patiño’s is July 1.

Father Brian McWeeney had served since 2011 as director of adult faith formation in the archdiocese. He also had been administrator of St. Michael’s parish, Manhattan, since January 2012. This year, he is serving as coordinator of the Year of Faith in the archdiocese. He was pastor of St. Stanislaus parish, Pleasant Valley, 2008-2011; SS. John and Paul, Larchmont, 2004-2008; and St. Martin de Porres, Poughkeepsie, 1994-2004. He was ordained in 1973.

Father Michael Cichon has served since 2007 as pastor of Assumption-St. Paul’s, Staten Island, a post to which he was reappointed July 1 (CNY, June 27). He was pastor of St. Joseph-St. Thomas parish, Staten Island, 2001-2007. He was parochial vicar of St. Clare’s, Staten Island, 1994-2001; Immaculate Conception, Stony Point, 1994; St. Patrick’s, Yorktown Heights, 1988-1994; and St. Charles, Staten Island, 1985-1988. He was ordained in 1985.

Father Kevin Malick most recently served as parochial vicar at Our Lady Star of the Sea, Staten Island. He also served at Immaculate Conception, Tuckahoe, 2008-2012, and St. Augustine’s, New City, 2007-2008. He was ordained in 2007.

Father Fredy Patiño Montoya had served as parochial vicar of St. Peter’s, Haverstraw, since his ordination in 2010.
