As we approach the beautiful feast of Thanksgiving, and give thanks to God for all our blessings, personal and universal, let us remember the ultimate blessing, the ultimate gift God has given to the world, Jesus.
Jesus in the manger is the universal blessing. Jesus on the altar is the perpetual blessing. Jesus placed upon our tongue is the wondrous blessing, the Gift of gifts given to Catholics. St. Thérèse of Lisieux wrote in her autobiography, The Story of a Soul, “why else would Jesus come down from heaven if not to rest peacefully within our hearts.” This Thanksgiving Day, and every day, let us thank God. God is great, God is good, let us thank Him for our “food.” Happy Thanksgiving!
