Manhattan College officials revisited the school’s athletic history in naming Marianne Reilly as director of intercollegiate athletics on March 30.

Ms. Reilly, a 1982 graduate of Manhattan, is the first woman named to this role at Manhattan and the third woman now serving as an athletic director at a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference school, joining Monmouth’s Dr. Marilyn McNeil and St. Peter’s Boe Pearman.

“I’m extremely excited to be coming home to Manhattan. It is a dream come true,’’ said Ms. Reilly at a press conference on March 31.

Ms. Reilly, who started her career as a teacher at Public School 261 in the Bronx and St. Catherine of Genoa School in Manhattan, was at Fordham University for 30 years, serving as associate athletic director since 1996 in addition to being the university’s senior women’s administrator.

She twice served as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Fordham and was head women’s basketball coach at Mount St. Vincent for two years.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Manhattan, a master’s degree in educational administration from Lehman College and a professional diploma from Fordham’s Graduate School of Education in Administration and Supervision.

At Manhattan, she was the first 1,000-point scorer in school history and the first woman inducted into the college’s Athletics Hall of Fame.
