New Marching Orders

Posted

To the Editor:

Evidently the obsession with sexual matters that permeates the American media and saturates the culture will leave no haven from it uninvaded. Now even the St. Patrick’s Day Parade must march to its beat. With strident demands from homosexual, lesbian and other groups including media, sex was intruded into the parade this year with the acquiescence of the suppliant committee in charge (CNY, March 19).

Now, with current definitions of tolerance and fairness, inclusiveness and diversity holding sway, the committee will likely have little will to keep out of future parades other insistent groups, perhaps proponents of open marriage, for example, or no fault divorce and polygamy.

Expect accusations of gross discrimination and intolerance otherwise. Apparently, in the name of toleration, few havens from the persistent demands of various sexual activist organizations will be tolerated.

There is a bright spot however. All members of the LGBT group that marched this year kept their clothes on. Something those who marched in parades on Fifth Avenue involving “gay rights” in the past did not always do.
