New principals have been named at two secondary schools in the archdiocese: Carol Killebrew at The Ursuline School in New Rochelle, and Dr. Kristin Ross at Loyola School in Manhattan. Both appointments will become effective July 1, according to announcements from the respective schools.

Ms. Killebrew has taught for 25 years at Girls Preparatory School in Chattanooga, Tenn., which like The Ursuline School enrolls girls from grades 6 to 12. She taught Latin and English at every grade level at Girls Prep, 1986-2007 and 2010-present.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the University of the South, and a master’s in English from the University of Tennessee. She was a Fulbright Scholar and a National Endowment of the Humanities Fellow.

“Given her talent and training, passion and experience, I am confident that she is an excellent fit for our school,” said Eileen Davidson, president of The Ursuline School, in a statement announcing the appointment.

Denise Moore, who had served as interim principal, will now serve as assistant principal of curriculum.

Dr. Kristin Ross has served as assistant principal at Regis High School in Manhattan for six years. She served as director of counseling and college adviser at Regis, 1999-2008.

She holds a master’s degree in organizational psychology and psychological counseling from Columbia University and a doctorate in educational and organizational leadership from the University of Pennsylania.

She will succeed James Lyness who has served as headmaster of the co-ed, Jesuit-run high school since 2004. He will become the math department chairman.

“In considering who the next principal of Loyola School would be, we recognized the importance of selecting a candidate who is well grounded in Ignatian spirituality and possesses a deep understanding of Loyola School’s mission,” said Loyola’s President Tony Oroszlany, who also noted Dr. Ross’ “impressive breadth of experience from a variety of educational settings.”
