The Office of Hispanic Ministry, together with the Office of Ethnic Apostolates and the Chair of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Advisory Council for Hispanic Ministry, organized its first meeting with the presidents who represent the various Hispanic committees and associations.

The purpose of the Sept. 17 gathering, held at the New York Catholic Center in Manhattan, was to assist the presidents of the committees in the coordination of the various Hispanic Mass celebrations held at St. Patrick's Cathedral, and to develop a better working relationship especially when establishing Hispanic Ministry within their local communities and local parishes.

"This first orientation will help us come together as a community of faith, and establish a joint working relationship within the Hispanic communities of the Archdiocese of New York," said Wanda Vasquez, director of Hispanic Ministry.

Father Brian McWeeney, director of Ethnic Apostolates, said, "This orientation is to effectively collaborate with all of the presidents of our Hispanic committees, while promoting Marian devotion in our communities, and to maintain the Marian spirit alive through its committees and all year long."

"The orientation was very energetic and we kept an open dialogue," said Father Fredy Patino, president of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Advisory Council for Hispanic Ministry.

"It allowed us an opportunity to meet and share our experiences, pastoral concerns, as well as share the richness of the communities where the presidents are extending their services for the Church."
