Performances of ‘St. Thérèse’ At Manhattan Church

“St. Thérèse,” a play about the saint known as the Little Flower, will be performed throughout the summer at Our Lady of Good Counsel parish hall in Manhattan.

St. Thérèse of Lisieux, a late 19th-century French Carmelite nun, was only 24 when she died of tuberculosis in 1897. Her writings, collected in “The Story of a Soul,” published a year after her death, offer a model of sanctity and are regarded as a spiritual masterwork.

She was canonized by Pope Pius XI in 1925 and named co-patron of the missions with St. Francis Xavier two years later. In 1997, now-St. John Paul II declared her the 33rd Doctor of the Church.

The drama was written, composed and directed by Michel Pascal and has been presented internationally.

This production, making some 50 performances at church venues in the New York area this summer, is based on St. Thérèse’s writings, and focuses on discovering inner peace, joy and faith as well as vocations. It stars actress Fanny Veliz.

It will be performed at Our Lady of Good Counsel, 230 E. 90th St., on the following dates:

Sundays, Aug. 3, 10 and 17 at 7 p.m., and Aug. 24 at 5 p.m.
