Proud Catholic

Posted

On Easter Sunday, the Catholic Church lost a long and faithful servant, Mother Mary Angelica of the Annunciation, P.C.P.A., founder of the Eternal Word Television Network (CNY, March 31).  It is through her obedience to Our Lord that many found a deeper appreciation of their faith. I was certainly one of them.

I have been down to visit EWTN, which is located in Irondale, Ala., on a number of occasions. Aside from gaining a deeper respect for Jesus in the Eucharist, I saw what a miracle it was that the whole world is being blessed by this modest studio just outside of Birmingham.

When I would go into the EWTN chapel, I would be overwhelmed by the silence in the presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. People didn’t just genuflect; they would get down on both knees and bow before His awesome presence. And it was with this in mind that I went back to receiving Communion by tongue.

And this was not all I got. Mother Angelica has always encouraged us to stand up for our faith. Don’t be taken in by the liberal Church. For example, if someone tells you that abortion is OK, you have to be a good Catholic soldier and say, “No, it’s not!”  Don’t be afraid to proclaim your Catholic faith in public—write those letters to the editor of your local paper, wear Catholic apparel, put bumper stickers on your car. Be Catholic and proud of it.
