Reading Room Inspiring Students to Dream Big

Students at Ascension School in Manhattan have a room they can call their own—a quiet place with beanbags and comfy chairs, surrounded by full bookcases and plenty of table space. Ascension is the first school in New York to receive a Ben Carson Reading Room, thanks to the Carson Scholars Fund and the Andrew Sabin Family Foundation. The room is named for the famed pediatric neurosurgeon, Dr. Ben Carson.

“They love the new reading room. It’s open, it’s available and it’s inviting,” principal Omar Ortiz told CNY. “It’s a fun and welcoming environment for them to come in and take time to enjoy a book.”

The room is open to all 295 students from prekindergarten through eighth grade at the Upper West Side school.
