Seven Priests Celebrating Silver Jubilees

Seven priests of the archdiocese are celebrating the 25th anniversary of their ordination to the priesthood.

They are Father Lorenzo Ato, pastor of St. Brigid and St. Emeric parish, Manhattan; Father Louis Jerome, pastor of Sacred Heart, Staten Island; Father Pancrose Kalist, pastor of Our Lady Queen of Peace, Staten Island; Father Thomas Kiely, pastor of Holy Spirit, Cortlandt Manor; Father Francis Maurice, parochial vicar of Holy Name of Jesus, New Rochelle; Father Brian McSweeney, pastor of Our Lady of Loretto, Cold Spring; and Father Jacek Wozny, pastor of St. Stanislaus Kostka, Staten Island.

Cardinal John O’Connor ordained three of the priests (Father Jerome, Fathery Kiely and Father McSweeney) at a Mass in St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Nov. 12, 1988. Each had studied for the priesthood at St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie.

The four other silver jubilarians were incardinated into the archdiocese after being ordained in their native countries. Father Ato was ordained Feb. 13, 1988 in Peru for the Society of Mary; Father Kalist was ordained in India on March 6, 1988; Father Maurice was ordained for the Capuchin Franciscans in Pakistan on July 8, 1988; and Father Wozny was ordained in Poland on June 5, 1988.

Father Lorenzo Ato has served since January as pastor of St. Brigid and St. Emeric parish, Manhattan. Since 2005 he has been assistant director for Hispanic media in the archdiocesan Communications Office. He had also served since 2005 as administrator of St. Emeric’s parish. He was pastor of St. Thomas Aquinas, the Bronx, 2002-2005, and was parochial vicar there, 1998-2002. He also was parochial vicar of St. Rose of Lima, Manhattan, 1997-1998, and Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, Manhattan, 1990-1997. A native of Peru, he was ordained there for the Society of Mary and was incardinated into the archdiocese in 1999.

Father Louis Jerome has served since 2003 as pastor of Sacred Heart parish, Staten Island, where he was previously administrator for two years. He served as parochial vicar of St. Patrick’s, Yorktown Heights, 1994-2001; St. Mary’s, Poughkeepsie, 1993-1994; and Immaculate Heart of Mary, Scarsdale, 1988-1993.

Father Pancrose Kalist has served since 2008 as pastor of Our Lady Queen of Peace, Staten Island, where he previously was administrator for nine months, and was parochial vicar, 1996-2002. He was parochial vicar of St. Ann’s, Staten Island, 2004-2007; and St. Aedan’s, Pearl River, 2002. A native of India, he was ordained there and incardinated into the archdiocese in 2004.

Father Thomas Kiely has served since 2001 as pastor of Holy Spirit parish, Cortlandt Manor, where he previously was administrator for 18 months. He also served as parochial vicar of the following parishes: St. Catharine’s, Blauvelt, 1998-2000; St. Theresa’s, Briarcliff Manor, 1995-1998; St. Gregory the Great, Harrison, 1991-1995; and St. Joseph’s, Middletown, 1998-1991.

Father Francis Maurice has served since 2009 as parochial vicar of Holy Name of Jesus parish, New Rochelle. He has also served as parochial vicar of the following parishes: Our Lady Help of Christians, Staten Island, 2008-2009; St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral, 2007-2008; Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Manhattan, 2005-2007; St. Gregory the Great, Harrison, 2005; and Immaculate Conception, the Bronx, 2001-2005. A native of Pakistan, he was ordained for the Capuchin Franciscans and incardinated into the archdiocese in 2010.

Father Brian McSweeney has served since 2001 as pastor of Our Lady of Loretto parish, Cold Spring. Before that, he was assistant to the vicar general, 1998-2001. He served on the faculty at John F. Kennedy Catholic High School, Somers, 1993-1998, and Our Lady of Lourdes High School, Poughkeepsie, 1992-1993. He was parochial vicar of Holy Trinity parish, Poughkeepsie, 1988-1992.

Father Jacek Wozny has served since 2011 as pastor of St. Stanislaus Kostka parish, Staten Island, where he was administrator for a year, and served as parochial vicar, 2003-2005. He served as parochial vicar of St. Ann’s, Staten Island, 2005-2009. A native of Poland, he was ordained there and incardinated into the archdiocese in 2009.
