Staten Islanders Turn Out to Push for Education Tax Credit

The St Joseph Hill Varsity Cheerleaders, who recently took first place at the UCA National Cheerleading Competition in Orlando, Florida, carried signs around the gym throughout the evening. They wore their cheerleading uniforms and medals around their necks.

Leaflets and cards were placed on each seat.

Over 1,600 people attended the rally held in the school gymnasium of Monsignor Farrell HS. Bishop John O’Hara attended along with numerous elected officials from Staten Island. Assemblyman Michael Cusick, the lead sponsor of the bill was on hand to speak. Some of the notables who spoke were: Dr. Timothy McNiff, the Archdiocesan Superintendent of Schools sand State Senator Andrew Lanza. Attending the evening rally were Mrs Zoilita Herrera. Staten Island Regional Superintendent and Msgr Edmund Whalen, Principal of host school Msgr Farrell HS.
