Twenty Priests Appointed as Pastors

Father Jose Ambooken has been appointed pastor of Our Lady of Mercy parish, the Bronx, where he served as administrator since last year. He had served as parochial vicar of St. Margaret Mary, the Bronx, 2001-2015. He was ordained in 1975 in his native India and incardinated into the archdiocese in 2009.

Msgr. Edward Barry has been named pastor of St. Frances de Chantal parish, the Bronx. He had served as pastor of St. Barnabas in the Bronx, 2004-2016. He has been vicar of the Northeast Bronx since 2007. He served as pastor of St. Charles Borromeo, Dover Plains, 1993-2004, and as temporary administrator there, 1991-1993. He was director of CYO, 1986-1991. He served as parochial vicar at St. Frances de Chantal, the Bronx, 1980-1986, and St. Patrick’s, Yorktown Heights, 1973-1980. He was ordained in 1973 and named a monsignor in 1999. 

Father Joseph Bisignano has been named pastor of St. Patrick’s parish, Bedford. He served as pastor of St. Patrick’s, Yorktown Heights, 2005-2016. He was pastor at St. John the Evangelist in Beacon, 1995-2004. In 2000, he also became the pastor of St. Joachim’s in Beacon. In 2004, he became the pastor of the merged parish of St. Joachim and St. John the Evangelist until 2005. He earlier was parochial vicar at St. Columba’s, Hopewell Junction; St. Clare of Assisi, the Bronx; Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Elmsford; and St. Joseph’s, Kingston. He was ordained in 1981.

Father Michael Challinor has been named pastor of Holy Name of Jesus parish, New Rochelle. He was administrator of Our Lady of Mercy, Port Chester, since last year. He was pastor of St. Mary, Star of the Sea in the Bronx, 2005-2015, and also served as administrator there. He was parochial vicar of Sacred Heart, Hartsdale; St. Denis, Yonkers; Immaculate Conception, Stony Point; and St. John the Evangelist, Mahopac. He was ordained in 1991.

Father Douglas Crawford has been appointed pastor of Good Shepherd parish, Rhinebeck, where he had been administrator since last August and also temporary administrator for four months before that. Before that, he was priest secretary to Cardinal Egan and parochial vicar of Our Lady of Scapular-St. Stephen’s, Manhattan, 2012-2015. He had served as parochial vicar of St. Martin de Porres, Poughkeepsie, and St. Augustine’s, Ossining. He was ordained in 2007.

Father Paul Denault, O. Carm., has been appointed pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish in Middletown. He served as novice director at Brandsma Priory in Middletown, 2011-2016 and 1993-2006. He served in New Jersey as pre-novice director, 2006-2011.  He was parochial vicar at a parish in Brooklyn, 1985-1993. He served as chaplain at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan, 1980-1985. He was ordained for the Carmelites’ St. Elias Province in 1980.

Father Brendan Fitzgerald has been named pastor of St. Barnabas parish, the Bronx. He served as administrator of Regina Coeli, Hyde Park, 2012-2016. He had served as priest secretary to Cardinal Egan, archbishop emeritus, from 2010 to 2012, and as parochial vicar of Our Lady of the Scapular-St. Stephen’s, Manhattan, 2010-2012. He served at St. Margaret of Cortona, the Bronx, 2009-2010, and St. Barnabas, the Bronx, 2006-2009. He was ordained in 2000 for the Diocese of Limerick in his native Ireland and incardinated in 2012.

Father Matthew Furey has been appointed pastor of Sacred Heart parish, Suffern. He was pastor of St. Francis Xavier, 2010-2016, and earlier was administrator there for two years. He was parochial vicar at Sacred Heart, Suffern, 2005-2008; St. Clare’s, Staten Island, 2000-2005; and St. Theresa of the Infant Jesus, the Bronx, summer 1999. From 1999 to 2000, he studied at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, where he earned a licentiate in dogmatic theology. He was ordained in 1999.

Father Mario Julian, O.F.M., has been appointed pastor of St. Anthony of Padua parish in Lower Manhattan. He previously served as pastor of parishes in Troy and in Milford, Conn. He served as parochial vicar at a parish in Marlboro, Mass., and as a high school chaplain in McKeesport, Pa. He was ordained for the Franciscans’ Immaculate Conception Province in 1981.

Father James Miara has been appointed pastor of Holy Innocents, Manhattan. He has been pastor of St. Anthony’s, Commonwealth Avenue, the Bronx, 2012-2016 and was administrator, 2011-2012. He was parochial vicar of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, the Bronx, 2004-2011,  and St. Teresa’s, Staten Island, 2001-2004. He was ordained in 2001.

Father Raul Miguez has been appointed pastor of St. Brendan-St. Ann parish in the Bronx, where he had served as administrator since last year. He was administrator of St. John the Evangelist, White Plains, 2014-2015, and had served as parochial vicar there, 2013-2014. He served as parochial vicar in the Bronx at Blessed Sacrament, Holy Spirit and Holy Rosary. He was ordained in Italy in 1999 and incardinated into the archdiocese earlier this year.

Father Michael Morris has been named pastor of Regina Coeli parish, Hyde Park. He has served since 2011 as archivist of the archdiocese at St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie, where he has been professor of Church history since 2007. He was administrator of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, Roosevelt Island, 2012-2013. He served as pastor of Blessed Sacrament, Staten Island, 2004-2007, and St. Francis of Assisi, the Bronx, 2000-2004. He served as administrator at Most Holy Trinity, West Point, 1997-1999. He was parochial vicar at St. Augustine’s, Larchmont, 1999-2000; Holy Child, Staten Island, 1999; St. Barnabas, the Bronx, 1991-1997; and Most Holy Trinity, West Point, 1989-1990. He was ordained in 1989.

Father Myles Murphy has been named pastor of Our Lady of Victory-St. Andrew in Manhattan. He had been pastor of St. Agnes, Manhattan, 2011-2016. He was pastor of St. Michael’s, Manhattan, 2006-2011, and administrator, 2004-2006. He was parochial vicar of St. Gabriel’s, the Bronx, 1992-2004, and Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Elmsford, 1990-1992. He was on the faculty of St. Joseph’s Seminary Institute of Religious Studies. He is past president of the Mariological Society of America. He received a licentiate in sacred theology from the International Marian Research Institute in Dayton, Ohio. He was ordained in 1990.

Father Evaristus Ohuche has been named pastor of St. Catherine of Genoa parish, Manhattan. He served as pastor of Blessed Sacrament, the Bronx, 2010-2015. He then served at the merged parish of Holy Family-Blessed Sacrament-St. John Vianney, the Bronx. He was parochial vicar at St. Elizabeth’s, Manhattan, 2008-2010. He was parochial vicar at St. Benedict’s, the Bronx, 2006-2008, and Incarnation, Manhattan, 2002-2006. He was ordained in 2002.

Father Daniel O’Reilly has been named pastor of Corpus Christi parish, Manhattan, where he had served as administrator since 2013. Since 2011, he has served as director of campus ministry at Columbia University. He had served as director of the archdiocese’s University Apostolate. He served as spiritual director of St. John Neumann Residence, 2008-2011. He was parochial vicar of Resurrection parish, Rye, 2003-2007. He was ordained in 2003. 

Father Jarlath Quinn has been named pastor of St. Peter-Our Lady of the Rosary-St. Joseph Chapel in Manhattan. He was pastor at St. John the Evangelist, Mahopac, 2011-2016. He served as pastor of Our Lady Help of Christians, Staten Island, 2003-2011. He was parochial vicar at Resurrection, Rye, 2001-2003, and Our Lady of the Assumption, the Bronx, 1996-2001. He was ordained in 1996.

Father Osiris Salcedo, S.D.B., has been appointed pastor of Incarnation parish, Manhattan, where he served as administrator since 2014. He served as administrator of St. Pius V, the Bronx, 2012-2014. He was parochial vicar of St. John Chrysostom, the Bronx, 2010-2012; and St. Elizabeth’s, 2004-2010, and Incarnation, 2002-2004, both in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan. He was ordained in the Dominican Republic in 1997 for the Salesians of Don Bosco.

Father Jose Serrano has been named pastor of St. Philip Neri parish, the Bronx. He had been pastor of St. Teresa’s, Manhattan, since last year. He was temporary administrator of St. John Vianney and administrator of Holy Family, both in the Bronx, 2014-2015. He was pastor of St. John Vianney, 2009-2014. He served as administrator of St. Columba’s, Manhattan, and was parochial vicar of Sacred Heart, Newburgh; St. Ann’s, Ossining; and St. Elizabeth’s, Manhattan. He was ordained in 1995.

Father Robert Verrigni has been named pastor of St. Francis Xavier, the Bronx. He had been pastor of Church of the Magdalene, Pocantico Hills, since last year. He was administrator of St. Ursula’s, Mount Vernon, 2012-2015. He served as master of ceremonies at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, 2006-2007, and pastor of Holy Name of Jesus, Valhalla, 1998-1999. He served as parochial vicar of Resurrection, Rye; SS. John and Paul, Larchmont; St. Patrick’s Cathedral; St. John the Evangelist, Mahopac; and St. Francis Xavier, the Bronx. He was ordained in 1977.

Father Leonard Villa has been appointed pastor of St. Paul the Apostle parish, Yonkers. He was administrator of St. John the Evangelist, Goshen, 2014-2015. He served as pastor of St. Eugene’s, Yonkers, 1998-2014, and was appointed regional vicar of Yonkers in 2011. He previously served as administrator and parochial vicar of St. Eugene’s. He also served as parochial vicar of St. Dominic’s and Our Lady of Mount Carmel, both in the Bronx. He did Scripture studies at the Biblicum in Rome, 1991-1992. He was ordained in 1986.
