The Academy of Mount St. Ursula in the Bronx has received a generous donation of $1 million from the Ursuline Sisters of Bedford Park.

Since 2008, the sisters have given the girls’ school more than $2 million.

The latest gift will go to the school’s “Ensure Their Future” Capital Campaign and the Annual Fund. The donation will enable AMSU to offer substantial financial aid to members of the Class of 2020, assist with necessary upgrades to the school’s physical plant and construct a new faculty and staff parking lot.

In her note to school administration announcing the gift, Sister Kathleen Finnerty, O.S.U., a member of the Class of 1956, said, “We are delighted to be able to assist in this way. Our devotion to the AMSU mission remains strong and steadfast.”

Academy of Mount St. Ursula has an enrollment of 330 students in grades 9 through 12.

Father John Vigilanti, the school president, said, “This recent gift of the Ursuline community is in keeping with the 160 years of generosity demonstrated by the Ursulines for the young women of New York.”

Sister Jean Marie Humphries, O.S.U., principal and member of the Class of 1989, said the school is “so appreciative of the support we receive from the Ursuline Sisters.”

“AMSU is the great school it is because of the wonderful Ursuline Sisters who began our school and who have worked here for many years,” she said.

Other Ursulines who serve at the academy are Sister Barbara Calamari, O.S.U., mission effectiveness, and Sister Alice Marie Giordano, O.S.U., service coordinator, and a member of the Class of 1952; others are on the school board and committees.
