‘Useless’ Laws

Posted

I’m surprised but not shocked that your editorial staff (you don’t speak for the Church and you don’t speak for all Catholics, in my opinion) chose the “easy” path, blaming the instrument and not the “hard” path, that is, blaming the actor. (CNY, Sept. 3)
I’m not a gun lover but I think people who are truly honest with themselves can tell the difference between the symptom and the disease. The gun does not shoot itself. It is fired in an act of cruelty, criminality and stupidity by individuals devoid of moral compass.  Why don’t you instead advocate rejoining families, assuming personal responsibility, self-control, patience, respect and love? What about discipline and restraint taught by responsible parents and educators to children and students who are their solemn charge? Law after law after useless law will never solve the problem.
