Black History Month Masses, Events in Archdiocese

Throughout the archdiocese, parishes and schools are celebrating Black History Month with Masses and programs.

On Sunday, Feb. 21, at noon, St. Raymond’s Church in the Bronx will celebrate an African Community Black History Month Mass. The Ghanaian Choir from St. Luke’s in the Bronx will provide music. A reception will follow.

On Monday, Feb. 22, at 6 p.m., Fordham University will hold a lecture on Black Catholic Cultures in the United States Lecture Series, featuring Father Bryan Massingale, professor of theology at Marquette University. His lecture is titled, “Beyond ‘Authentically Black and Truly Catholic’: Black Catholic Identify for a New Time.” It will take place at the Lincoln Center Campus, 12th floor, E. Gerald Corrigan Conference Center.

On Sunday, Feb. 28, at 9:30 a.m., St. Charles Borromeo Church, Harlem, will celebrate a Black History Month Mass with Father James Goode, O.F.M., pastoral director of Solid Ground Franciscan Ministry, as principal celebrant. A program and reception will also be held.

On Sunday, Feb. 28, at 12:30 p.m., at St. Frances of Rome-Our Lady of Grace, the Bronx, will celebrate a Black History Month Mass with Father Fred Agyeman, chaplain of the Ghanaian community in the archdiocese, as principal celebrant.

Also on Sunday, Feb. 28, at 3 p.m. Immaculate Conception Church on Gun Hill Road in the Bronx will host a Black History Month Gospel Fest concert.
