Brother Bernard Knezich, F.S.C., who was a teacher at La Salle Academy in Manhattan, died July 7 in the Brothers’ Community at La Salle Institute in Troy. He was 83.
He taught at La Salle Academy, 1959-1964 and 1974-1978, and was a teacher and director, 1978-1983.
He also taught at schools in Troy and Albany; New Mexico, and in Ethiopia and Bethlehem.
Born in Syracuse, he entered the De La Salle Christian Brothers in 1954 and professed final vows in 1960. He held a bachelor’s degree in English from The Catholic University of America.
He was formerly known as Brother Loreto.
He earlier served in the U.S. Army before entering religious life.
A Funeral Mass was offered July 12 at St. Michael’s Church in Troy.
Burial was in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
