Brother Donald P. Dwyer, C.F.C.

Brother Donald P. Dwyer, C.F.C., an educator who taught in the archdiocese, died Dec. 13 in St. Joseph’s Care Center in New Rochelle. He was 85.

He taught at St. Cecilia School, Manhattan, 1949-1951; Cardinal Hayes High School, the Bronx, 1951-1953; Rice High School, Harlem, 1953-1954, and served at Iona College, New Rochelle, 1981-2003.

He also taught in California, Washington, Massachusetts, Montana and New Jersey.

He served as a superior at Edmund Rice Hall, New Rochelle, 1972-1978. He was also deputy provincial of the Eastern American Province and served on the Tertianship Renewal Program in Rome, Italy.

Born in Brooklyn, he entered the Congregation of Christian Brothers in 1947 and professed final vows in 1955. He held a bachelor’s degree in history from Iona College, a master’s in history from the University of San Francisco, a master’s in English from the University of Notre Dame and a master’s in theology from Maryknoll.

A sister, Virginia Solano, survives him. A Funeral Mass was offered Dec. 18 at Holy Family Church in New Rochelle. Burial of his cremated remains was at the Christian Brothers Cemetery in West Park.
