Brother Patrick Dowd, F.S.C., who taught at several schools in the archdiocese and New York metropolitan area, died Aug. 8 at De La Salle Hall in Lincroft, N.J. He was 94.

He taught at St. Raymond’s School, the Bronx, 1942-1945 and St. Jerome’s School, also in the Bronx, 1955-1959; De La Salle Institute, Manhattan, 1959-1960; Bishop Loughlin Memorial School, Brooklyn, 1945-1955, and at schools in New Jersey, notably at Paramus Catholic High School, where he taught from 1966 to 1995.

Born in New York City, he entered the De La Salle Christian Brothers in 1937. He professed perpetual vows in 1944. He earned a bachelor’s degree from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. and a master’s degree from Manhattan College. He also received an honorary doctorate in science in 1988 from Manhattan College.

A Funeral Mass was offered Aug. 13 in the Chapel of St. Benilde, at the Christian Brother’s Center in the Bronx. Burial was at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla.
