Cardinal Dolan commissioned and blessed the members of the Archdiocesan Youth Team after Mass Sept. 22 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral as the high school teens begin their work representing archdiocesan youth.

The seven members of the Archdiocesan Youth Team and their home parishes are Adam Andreani, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Shrub Oak; Daniel Velardo, Resurrection, Rye; Faith Jackson, St. John the Evangelist and St. Charles Borromeo, Pawling; Giovanni Anthony Gauzza, St. Martin de Porres, Poughkeepsie; Katie Westin, St. Lawrence O’Toole, Brewster; Natalie Varker, Annunciation-Our Lady of Fatima, Crestwood; and Veronica Keene, St. Stanislaus, Pleasant Valley.

This is the first youth team directed by the archdiocesan Office of Youth Ministry. Cynthia Psencik, the director of the Office of Youth Ministry, said she hopes the team will soon include representatives from every region of the archdiocese.

The Archdiocesan Youth Team’s mission is to advise and work with the Office of Youth Ministry to create events for youth and to advocate on their current issues and needs.

The team’s first official event will be at New York Catholic Youth Day, Saturday, Oct. 19, at Westchester County Center in White Plains where they will participate in the day and help with logistics.

The team will meet quarterly and via web conferencing for spiritual and leadership formation and to plan other activities and events. The next leadership retreat is Jan. 11, 2020.
