The 2014 Msgr. Farrell High School graduate was assigned July 2 to the Northwest League’s Tri-City Dust Devils. He has allowed two earned runs, struck out 13 and sports a 2.16 earned run average in 8.1 innings of relief through July 16 with the Class A short-season affiliate of the Padres.

The New York Yankees signed Cosgrove’s teammate at Manhattan, infielder Jose Carrera of Miami, as an undrafted free agent in late June. Carrera was 1-for-12 at the plate in four games with the Gulf Coast Rookie League Yankees through July 16.

Garay, a 26th-round pick of the New York Mets from St. Petersburg Junior College in Florida, had his six-game hitting streak snapped July 16 with the Kingsport Mets of the Appalachian League (Rookie).

In other baseball news, Cardinal Spellman High School graduate Nicholas Padilla had given up only one earned run over his last 20 innings pitched through July 16 with the Hudson Valley Renegades, the New York-Penn League Class A short-season affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays.

Padilla, 20, was a 13th-round pick of the Rays in the 2015 draft out of Grayson College, a community college in Texas.
