Deacon Rocco J. Damiano, who served as a deacon at St. Mary’s parish in Newburgh, died July 24 at his home in Pennsylvania. He was 66.

He served at St. Mary’s from his ordination at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in 2004 until he moved to Pennsylvania in 2011. He then served at a parish in the Diocese of Harrisburg.

He retired after 25 years of service as a police officer in the City of Newburgh.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam and was in the U.S. Army Special Forces Reserve.

Born in Newburgh, he held a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Mount St. Mary College.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Ann; two daughters, Elizabeth Damiano and Bernadette Damiano; two sons, Jeffrey and Derrick; and his sister, Carol Gormar.

A Funeral Mass was offered July 27 at Holy Spirit Church in Palmyra, Pa., with burial in Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Goshen.
