‘Defender of the Faith’

Posted

Thank you CNY for dedicating a full page in your March 31 edition to the life and death of Mother Mary Angelica, founder of the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN).

Her life story is one of suffering and devotion, all for the love of her Bridegroom Jesus, His Church and souls. She is a true apostle, a defender of the faith and in my opinion will be canonized a saint by the Church she loved and protected from attacks within and without.

Divine Providence and a willingness to do the will of God is the only answer to explain how a cloistered nun with no related knowledge, no funds and in constant pain from a spinal injury suffered earlier in life would take on the daunting challenge at the age of 58 in 1981 to establish a national and international television network. Without advertising revenue and relying on contributions from viewers and benefactors, EWTN has become via television, radio and Internet a prominent means of Catholic evangelization for the Church.

Countless stories of conversions and returns to the faith, vocations to religious life, deterred abortions and suicides, restored hope for those in despair, the prolific spreading of the truth of the Gospels, Church teachings and devotions and a deeper love and devotion to the Blessed Sacrament are attributed to EWTN. Only God knows how many souls have and will attain salvation because of the yes that Mother Mary Angelica, EWTN and those who have worked there throughout the years gave to the Lord.

Anyone who has set out to do true good for God knows the difficulties, attacks and evil they will encounter along with the good. One can only imagine how much Mother Mary Angelica endured as she led this pursuit against all earthly thinking.
