Ellen Lukas, a journalist, author and editor, died Aug. 26 at her home in New York City. She was 76.

She was a U.N. correspondent for Newsweek and later served as a news analyst for U.N. Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim. She then served for four years as a delegate with the Holy See’s Permanent Observer Mission.

Along with her sister Mary Lukas, she co-authored a biography of noted 20th-century French Jesuit philosopher Pierre Teilhard de Chardin.

A Funeral Mass was offered Sept. 16 at St. Jean Baptiste Church in Manhattan. Burial followed at Annunciation Cemetery in Shenandoah.
