Father Barnabas Keck, O.F.M., Cap, who served at Capuchin-run parishes in Yonkers, Manhattan and New Paltz, died Aug. 13 in Kingston. He was 89.

He served at St. Joseph’s parish in New Paltz as a parochial vicar and fraternal vicar of the friar community there from 1997 until his death.

He served as parochial vicar at St. John the Baptist parish, Manhattan, 1978-1984, and at Sacred Heart parish, Yonkers, 1952-1956 and 1961-1970. He taught religion at Sacred Heart High School, Yonkers, 1952-1956.

He also served in Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Born in Valley Stream, he entered the Capuchin Franciscans in 1943 and professed final vows in 1947. He was ordained in 1951.

Three sisters, Jean Keck, Joan Milde and Rita Ripley, and a brother, Robert Keck, survive him. A Funeral Mass was offered Aug. 16 at St. Joseph’s Church in New Paltz. Burial was in Province of St. Mary Cemetery in Yonkers.
