Father Emeric Carmody, O. Carm.

Father Emeric Carmody, O. Carm., who was a chaplain at several hospitals in the archdiocese, died Aug. 2 at St. Patrick’s Residence, Naperville, Ill. He was 84.

From 1983 to 1995, he served as chaplain at New York-Presbyterian Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital, both in New York City, and Nyack Hospital, 1983-1995. He was also a chaplain at hospitals in Roslyn, and in Englewood, N.J.

He served at parishes in New Jersey, 1995-1998 and 1975-1983, and in Niagara Falls, Ontario, 1968-1974.

He taught at the Carmelite Junior Seminary, Hamilton, Mass., 1957-1968, and at a high school in Chicago, 1955-1957.

Born in Buffalo, he entered the Order of Carmelites in 1947.

He was ordained to the priesthood in 1954.

His sister Mary Kay Nola, and his brothers Dr. Patrick Carmody and Deacon Paul Carmody, of the Diocese of Buffalo, survive him.

A Funeral Mass was offered Aug. 9 at Mount Carmel Spiritual Centre, Niagara Falls.

Burial was at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Niagara Falls.
