Father Ephrem Karwowski, O.F.M. Cap., who was a hospital chaplain at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla and parochial vicar at St. John the Baptist parish in Manhattan, died May 14 in Pompton Plains, N.J. He was 69.
He served at Westchester from 1988 to 1990 and at St. John the Baptist, 1990-1996. He also served at parishes in Illinois, Connecticut and Patchogue.
Born in Chicago, he entered the Capuchins in 1982 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1988. He held bachelor’s and master’s degrees in sociology and psychology from DePaul University in Chicago.
A brother, James, survives him.
A Funeral Mass was offered May 17 at Sacred Heart Church, Yonkers. Burial was at St. Mary Cemetery in Yonkers.
