Father George Maddock, O.F.M. Cap.

Father George Maddock, O.F.M. Cap., who served in Guam for 37 years, died Sept. 30 at St. Clare’s Friary in Yonkers. He was 81.

Father Maddock was in Guam, 1995-2013 and 1965-1984. He served as the pastor of two parishes, was a vice principal and teacher, and also did formation work. He also served in Hawaii, 1984-1995, where he was twice a pastor, taught in a parish school and was director of post-novitiate formation.

He earlier served in the Mariana Islands in the Pacific Ocean.

Born in St. Albans, Queens, he entered the Capuchin Franciscans in 1955, professed final vows in 1959 and was ordained in 1964.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from St. Anthony’s Friary, Hudson, and a master’s in divinity from Mary Immaculate School of Theology, Garrison, where he studied for the priesthood.

His brothers, John and Joseph, and sister, Eileen, survive him.

A Funeral Mass was offered Oct. 6 at Sacred Heart Church, Yonkers. Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Yonkers.
