Father Giles F. Bello, O.F.M.

Father Giles F. Bello, O.F.M., who served as a pastor and in parochial ministry, died Sept. 2 at Holy Name Friary in Ringwood, N.J. He was 84.

He was pastor and guardian of Holy Cross parish, the Bronx, 1973-1975. He served on the pastoral staff at St. Francis of Assisi parish, Manhattan, 1978-1984, and as parochial vicar at St. Stephen of Hungary parish, Manhattan, 1959-1960.

He served as secretary of the Franciscans’ Holy Name Province, while residing at St. Francis of Assisi Friary, Manhattan, 1967-1973.

He also served in Crogan and Albany and in New Jersey, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

Born in Long Island City, he entered the Order of Friars Minor in 1949 and professed final vows in 1953. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1955.

He is survived by his sister, Joyce Case. A Funeral Mass was offered Sept. 6 at St. Anthony’s Church in Butler, N.J., with burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery there.
