Father Martin Hanhauser, O.F.M, a priest and educator, died Aug. 16 at Holy Name Friary in Ringwood, N.J. He was 98.

He taught in the mathematics department at St. Bonaventure University, Allegany, beginning in 1943 before transferring two years later to Siena College in Loudonville where he was a professor and head of the mathematics department until 1982. He served as the chairman of the school’s science division from 1963 to 1966.

He also served in various ministries of the Manahattan-based Franciscans of the Holy Name Province. He was the oldest friar in the province at the time of his death.

Born in St. Mary’s, Pa., he entered the Franciscans in 1936 and professed final vows in 1940. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1942. He held a master’s degree and a doctorate in mathematics and physics from St. Louis University.

A Funeral Mass was offered Aug. 21 in St. Mary of the Angels Chapel at Sienna College. Burial was at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
