Father Robert Crohan, M.M.

Father Robert Crohan, M.M., who served in Guatemala for 41 years, died Feb. 19 at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan. He was 85.

Father Crohan was in Guatemala, 1969-2010, serving as a parish priest in the Huehuetenango and Peten dioceses, and as a university professor and conductor of a national symphony orchestra in Guatemala City. He also served in Illinois.

Born in Riverhead, he entered Maryknoll in 1953, professed final vows in 1961 and was ordained in 1962.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Maryknoll College, Glen Ellyn, Ill.; a bachelor’s in sacred theology and a master’s in religious education in sacred scripture, both from Maryknoll Seminary, Ossining; and a master’s in music from The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C.

His brother, Thomas, and his sister, Irene Rogozinski, survive him.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 26 in Queen of Apostles Chapel, Maryknoll. Burial was in Maryknoll Society Cemetery in Ossining.
