Franciscan Friar Professing Final Vows

Brother Abraham Joseph, O.F.M., will profess his final vows as a Franciscan friar at a Mass in St. Francis of Assisi Church in Manhattan on Saturday, Aug. 25, at 11 a.m.

Father Kevin Mullen, O.F.M, the provincial minister of the Franciscans’ Holy Name Province, will be the principal celebrant.

Brother Joseph most recently served an internship at Holy Name of Jesus-St. Gregory the Great parish in Manhattan. Liturgy preparation, adult education, administrative tasks, and justice, peace and integrity of creation service were his ministries.

“It was a great learning and discerning period,” said Brother Abraham, who made his first vows in 2014.

Born in Haiti, Brother Joseph came to the United States in 2000. He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Monroe College, the Bronx, and was an accountant for September 11th Families Association of Manhattan before entering the Franciscan Friars of the Holy Name Province.

“As an adult, I look more profoundly into the teaching of the Church and the Word of Christ,” he said. “Consequently, I have committed myself to live my Christian faith seriously. Making profession is one more step toward reaching the strongest desire of my heart, to imitate Jesus Christ the way St. Francis did.”
