Dr. Timothy McNiff, superintendent of schools for the archdiocese, and the St. Barnabas High School Board of Trustees have named Frances Dziuma interim principal and Julie Mulry Kaen assistant principal of St. Barnabas in the Bronx. Both appointments are effective immediately.

The archdiocese and the board have formed a committee to initiate a national search during the transition period to identify a candidate for principal at the girls’ high school.

Ms. Dziuma has been a member of the school community at St. Barnabas for four decades. She has served as a science teacher; chairperson of the math, science, physical education and guidance departments; and assistant principal.

She was instrumental in creating a student internship outreach program in medicine, education and law. She also served on the income and development committee.

She earlier served as an associate adjunct professor of chemistry at Elizabeth Seton College and Iona College.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and master’s in secondary education, both from Iona College, and a master’s in building leadership administration from Mercy College.

Julie Mulry Kaen is alumna of St. Barnabas (class of 1976) and a member of the school’s Hall of Fame. She served at St. Barnabas as athletic director, teacher, health education instructor and, most recently, as dean of plant operations and events. Under her leadership, the athletic program expanded to eight teams. She also served as dean of students at Academy of Our Lady of Good Counsel in White Plains.

She worked as a NYC Urban Park Ranger supervisor, coordinating programs with school and community organizations in the Bronx and Manhattan. She was also an instructor at the NYC Emergency Medical Service Academy.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education from the College of Mount St. Vincent and a master’s in physical education from Herbert H. Lehman College.
