A Memorial Mass Oct. 6 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral marked the 34th anniversary of Cardinal Terence Cooke’s death in 1983. Cardinal Cooke, born in Manhattan and raised in the Bronx, was the Archbishop of New York from 1968 until his death from leukemia at age 62. Auxiliary Bishop Peter Byrne served as the principal celebrant. The Cardinal Cooke Guild, established to promote the canonization cause of Cardinal Cooke, sponsored the Mass.
