Michael P. McCauley, who taught for almost 40 years at three Catholic schools in the Bronx, died Sept. 16 after a short battle with cancer. He was 64.
McCauley taught at Immaculate Conception School, his alma mater, and St. Jerome’s School before spending most of his teaching career at St. Raymond’s High School for Boys.
He also served as a youth minister at St. Jerome’s parish, a CYO basketball coach and a retreat leader for Handicapped Encounter Christ.
McCauley provided tuition assistance for several students in high school and college, and helped others pay for rent and find affordable housing.
Born in the Bronx, he was a graduate of Cardinal Spellman High School and Manhattan College. He earned master’s degrees in theology and counseling at St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie.
His sisters, Sister Bernadette McCauley, S.C.C., Sister Eileen McCauley, S.C.C., and Patricia McCauley, and his brother, Daniel, survive him.
A Funeral Mass was offered Sept. 23 at St. Raymond Church. Burial was in St. Raymond’s Cemetery, the Bronx.
