Missing ‘Saints’

Posted

Reading your recent article on the CYO cheerleading championships (CNY, March 30), I noticed a disturbing trend.  Some of the school uniforms seemed to have lost their Catholic identity. “Clare” as opposed to Saint Clare, or “Star of the Sea” as opposed to Our Lady Star of the Sea. As for the Panthers and Knights, I have no idea who they represent.

Abbreviations like OLGC and OLHC are easily recognizable, but is it too much to ask “Clares” to add a “St.,” if not a full “Saint”? In a time when people celebrate “Valentine’s” Day and “Patrick’s” Day, it’s important to remember the real reason behind the names front and center.
