Mother Maureen of the Precious Blood, O.C.D.

Mother Maureen of the Precious Blood, O.C.D., a Discalced Carmelite nun of the Carmelite Monastery in Erie, Pa., and a native New Yorker, died June 26. She was 58.

She was named prioress of the Carmel of the Holy Family in 2013.

She entered Carmel in 2000 and made final vows in 2006.

Born Janice M. Lanzilotti in Plainfield, N.J., she was the daughter of Anthony and Maureen (Haney) Lanzilotti of Pearl River. She graduated from Albertus Magnus High School in Bardonia. She held a bachelor’s degree in music, a master’s degree in business administration and a juris doctor degree.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by two brothers, Dr. Thomas and Michael, and a sister, Karen Lappin.

A Funeral Mass was offered July 2 in the Carmel Monastery Chapel by Erie Bishop Lawrence Persico. Concelebrants included Father Kevin Fimian, nephew of Mother Maureen. Burial was in the monastery cemetery.
