Part of the street directly behind St. Peter’s Church on Staten Island was renamed for Msgr. James Dorney, who served as pastor of St. Peter’s from 1986 until his death in 2015 at age 83. Msgr. Dorney also was co-dean of Staten Island for many years. The Staten Island chapter of the Knights of Columbus, under President Tim Geary, spearheaded the effort to rename part of St. Peter’s Place to Msgr. Dorney Way. The City Council passed the resolution for the renaming in May.
