Italian Archbishop Gabriele Caccia, the Vatican’s new permanent observer to the United Nations, and U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres pose for an official photo after the archbishop formally presented his credentials at U.N. headquarters in Manhattan Jan. 28. Archbishop Caccia’s appointment to the U.N. post was announced by the Vatican in November. He succeeds Filipino Archbishop Bernardito Auza, named in October as nuncio to Spain and Andorra.
