NY Life Week Includes Cathedral Mass, Times Square Gathering

New York Life Week is a weeklong call campaign concluding Saturday, May 4, with Auxiliary Bishop Peter Byrne celebrating a noon Mass for the Unborn at St. Patrick’s Cathedral and a 2:30 p.m. Focus on the Family event, “Alive from New York,” which is expected to draw thousands to Times Square to celebrate the sanctity and gift of human life.

Sponsored by the archdiocesan Respect Life Office, New York Life Week begins on Divine Mercy Sunday, April 28, and is an opportunity for parishioners across the archdiocese to uphold life in New York and remind all of the dignity of every human life.

In response to the Jan. 22 passage of the aggressive Reproductive Health Act in New York, and in the wake of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s public expression of his willingness to sign into law physician-assisted suicide, pro-life advocates are being asked to make their voices heard.

In solidarity throughout New York, parishioners are invited to call their state legislators to express opposition to physician-assisted suicide. Visit https://lifeofficenyc.org/alive-from-new-york for the contact list of state assembly members and senators and a provided script.

“Alive from New York,” the Focus on the Family event, is a two-hour program that will feature live music; inspirational speeches from special guests as well as abortion survivors; and a live, 4D ultrasound broadcast on massive digital screens in Times Square.

Bishop Byrne will introduce Cardinal Dolan, whose prepared welcome and message will be shown on the digital screens. Jeanne Mancini, president of March for Life in Washington, D.C., will host the event.

The event is free, but a limited number of tickets—10,000, the event capacity—will be distributed for “Alive from New York.” Register for tickets at www.focusonthefamily.com/pro-life.

“The tone of the event is important. It’s not a protest. Life is something to be celebrated and received as a gift,” said Sister Virginia Joy, S.V., director of the Respect Life Office.
